Meta hires MongoDB CEO CJ Desai to sell its AI to businesses

Meta has launched a division to sell its AI tools to businesses, Mark Zuckerberg said on X on Monday. MongoDB chief executive Chirantan “CJ” Desai will run it.

“Today we are starting the next major pillar of our business, Meta Enterprise Platform,” Zuckerberg wrote.

The unit will first offer Meta’s full technology stack to businesses and developers, he said. That includes the Muse agent, Meta Business Agent, Muse API and Muse Code. It will draw on Meta’s models, agents, large-scale infrastructure and years of work with businesses, according to Zuckerberg.

Desai joins as chief enterprise platform officer and will report directly to Zuckerberg. He spent about 11 months as MongoDB’s president and chief executive, Business Insider reported. Before that, he led product and engineering at Cloudflare. He also spent nearly eight years at ServiceNow, including as president and chief operating officer.

MongoDB shares fell as much as 27% on Monday, to a nearly two-month low, Business Insider reported.

“Meta has a rare advantage in this transition,” Desai wrote on LinkedIn.

He pointed to Meta’s AI models, infrastructure and agents, and to the millions of advertisers and hundreds of millions of businesses it already serves.

Muse goes to work

The new unit takes Muse, Meta’s personal AI agent, to corporate customers. Meta’s shares jumped 11% last week as investors bet on the agent. Meta has also been testing human callers behind Muse, Reuters reported.

Software stocks fell earlier this year on fears that AI tools will replace them. Business Insider called it the “SaaSpocalypse”. Salesforce’s Marc Benioff has called that fear “crazy nonsense”.
