Japan invests $21 billion in GlobalFoundries’ New York chip fabs, U.S. takes equity stake
Japan has committed up to $21 billion to support the construction of two new chip manufacturing facilities at GlobalFoundries’ site in Malta, New York. As part of the deal, the U.S. government will acquire a minority equity stake in the company, increasing its ownership to 7%. The project aims to bolster domestic semiconductor production and create thousands of jobs.
